Yoga

Developed over 5000 years ago in India, Yoga is a series of poses (asanas) that were originally designed to attain harmony between the heart and soul.  In recent years, leaders in the field of trauma and neuroscience have done extensive clinical research proving the efficacy of Yoga as a complementary treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, depressive symptoms, sleep disruption, chronic pain and cardiovascular disease. Yoga’s unique ability to increase body awareness and promote regulation in the body and mind makes it a wonderful adjunctive tool in psychotherapy.

Lighthouse has made a commitment to integrating Yoga philosophy and mindful movement into our treatment plans, and to that end, we offer Yoga in all of our children’s groups as well as individual Yoga sessions and group Yoga classes that can be held in English, Spanish or American Sign Language (ASL).  In order to make Yoga available to all people, regardless of socioeconomic level, group classes will only cost $10/per person.

In addition to having a Yoga Teacher on site, Gretchen has completed the two day intensive Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Training (TCTSY) in Boston with David Emerson.
